Inspiring Change for Women

The International Women's Day event will be in the evening on Thursday, February 26, 2015 at Grace and Holy Trinity Cathedral in downtown Kansas City.  International Women’s day is celebrated all over the world.  It is a day when we celebrate the many social, economic, and political achievements of women, while also focusing attention on the many areas that still need further action.The evening will include food, entertainment, and a speaker.  We will also have UNAWomen IWD 2015 (4)a raffle and silent auction sponsored by the Zonta International Club of Kansas City, MO II.  Proceeds will be split equally between MOCSA, the Metropolitan Organization to Counter Sexual Assault, and "Voices Against Violence: Non-Formal Education Curriculum for the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts on Ending Violence against Women and Girls" a program in partnership with Zonta International and UN Women. Advance tickets will be $20 for the general public and $5 for students.

A. H. Monjurul KABIR, a legal expert and human rights lawyer, is the Programme Adviser and Head of Section, Asia and the Pacific at UN Women HQ in New York. Prior to this, he was the Practice Team Leader and Policy Adviser for Governance, Rule of Law, Human Rights, and Justice for UNDP Europe and Central Asia. Mr. Kabir served as the Democratic Governance and Knowledge Management Specialist with UNDP HQ in New York.  Previously, he served as the Legislative Adviser to the Afghan National Assembly and contributed to the establishment of the Afghan Parliament. He headed the Governance Portfolio for UNDP Bangladesh. In both these capacities in Afghanistan and Bangladesh, Mr. Kabir championed women’s political participation in Parliament and justice institutions.

Mr. Kabir's technical expertise includes, among others, Democracy and Governance, Development, Programming, and Policy Advocacy with specialization in Legislative Strengthening, Rule of Law and Constitutional Reforms, Human Rights, Gender Equality, and Social Inclusion, Security Sector Reform, Access to Justice, Legal and Women’s Empowerment, Public Accountability and Public Service/Sector Management. Mr. Kabir authored numerous research articles, blogs, and OP-ED pieces in international journals, newspapers and portals on a range of issues including, among others,  Political Science, Rule of Law and Post-2015 Development Agenda, Gender Equality, Aid Effectiveness, Parliamentary Oversight, Innovation and Leadership in Governance.
